ハンニバルはリトアニアで名門貴族の子息として生まれた。1944年、戦争で両親を失った彼は、妹ミーシャとふたりで隠れ家で暮らし始める。しかしある日、脱走兵たちにミーシャを殺され、ハンニバルは心を閉ざしてしまう。8年後、叔父を頼りにフランスへ向かったハンニバルは、叔父の日本人の妻レディ・ムラサキに迎え入れられる。ハンニバルは彼女のもとで高等な教育を受けるが、その一方で心の中に眠る残虐性を目覚めさせる。
