グリム童話の『赤頭巾ちゃん』をモチーフに、ニール・ジョーダン監督が夢と現実の交錯、少女の思春期の性を示唆する描写、狼との幻想的な関係を描いたダーク・ファンタジー。 ベッドでまどろむ少女・ロザリーンは夢を見ていた。そこでは狼に食い殺された姉の葬式が営まれている。葬式を終えて、彼女は祖母から狼男の昔話を聞く。村娘が結婚し、初夜に花婿が姿を消した。数年後、再婚した妻のもとに、狼男になった花婿が現れて…。
